Library Workers Give USF Students a Tour of Mears

Story by Whitney Fryer & Westly Johnson

Books, books, and more books. The Mears Library has a book to suit any USF student’s needs, from reference books all the way to material for leisure reading. If students are struggling to find books that peaks their interest, library workers are more then happy to make a recommendation.

Every few weeks the library offers a theme week to encourage students to read a book outside of their comfort zone. This past week the library featured banned books. These were all books that had been banned at one point in history. The first ten students to check out a banned book, also received a prize from the library.

Besides checking out books, the library offers students a peaceful studying environment. “The library has a lot to offer actually, there [are] a lot of little corners to study in here and [to] be quiet,” said library student worker Brittany Schrupp.

In the lower level of the library students can stop by the USF Writing Center and receive free writing advice on papers. Throughout the week tutoring services for various subjects, including math, science and history are also available to students free of charge.

After studying, students can visit the computer lab, which offers free printing and copying.

“The computer lab is just a great place to go if you do not have a computer,” said Hanna Samson.

For students looking for a relaxing way to end a long night of studying, they can check out Cougar Cooner.

“Cougar Corner is just a little shelf that we that we put books or movies that students would like to see. Itw was it popular now,” said library student worker Hanna Samson.

All of these amenities are available to students from Monday – Thursday 8am-11pm, Friday 8am-5pm, Saturday 3pm-11pm, and on Sunday from 2pm-11pm.
